I finally got to experience the world’s no.1 airline, Qatar Airways, the no.1 airline worldwide. This is the official airline of Qatar, my Comments!? ( see my review of the service and overall experience on Qatar Airwayshere). Note to Caribbean Airlines, the official airlines of Trinidad and Tobago. You are still the no.1 airlines when it comes to legroom space in the economy seating. I must admit…very spacious and comfortable, perfect for tall travellers. This is a short synopsis of what to expect and what I observed/experienced as a female solo traveller in Doha, Qatar.
Visiting a restaurant alone takes some nerves even for a pro. It can be a bit intimidating if you are not mentally strong or have not previously eaten alone. You can feel out of place especially when you are now being seated and the waiter announces…. “table for one?” and quickly grabs two glasses off your table and hurriedly walks away. It is as if you are taking up a table meant for at least two or more persons and they will be making less money off this table, (some think a solo diner = a lower bill/less money).
A country with riches but unfriendly, impolite people is a huge turn-off. For me what makes a country beautiful and great is its people. It helps if it also has yummy ice cream and tasty fish lol (that’s just me). Wealth, beautiful sceneries and aesthetically appealing are all nice, however, if your people are unfriendly, impolite and or racial, then there is no connection or yearning to ever return or to even talk much about it. I will share with you the two most warm-hearted countries I have ever visited.
When you are planning a solo vacation, the first thing you must do is some in-depth research into the country you will be visiting. You must have an idea as to the crime rate, uprisings, crime hot spots, etc. You can read the 28 safety tips for solo travellers and other important tips in more details, when planning and preparing for your vacation in the related posts below. This will facilitate in you being prepared for a solo vacation safety-wise. This will be your guide as to how to stay safe as a solo traveller.
TALES OF A BLACK FEMALE SOLO "Caribbean" TRAVELLER IN EUROPE
Being a black female solo traveller in Europe can bring you lots of good and bad attention from the airports to the streets. From both males and females, especially when travelling alone. I meet women sometimes, who will walk up to me and compliment me on my hair (if I am wearing the African braids), my skin colour, etc. The men most times see you as an “unfamiliar species” and want to be the first to “get to know you better”. I will share some views and tales of a black female solo traveller in Europe.
Nb. Countries featured in this post are some of the friendliest and most welcoming countries visited as a black woman). See my Destination page for full reviews and more photos.
SOLO TRAVEL - The Good The Bad and the Better YOU!
SOLO TRAVEL - THE GOOD THE BAD & THE BETTER YOU!!
Previously, I have read articles written about the good the bad and ugly of travelling solo. I thought to myself, why even associate the word ugly with solo travel?! For me, there is nothing ugly about travelling solo, not even the bad is that bad, if you know what you are about and have researched, planned and learned how to protect yourself when embarking on a solo vacation.
BREXIT/ETIAS COUNTOWN – Now is the time to Plan & Travel to Europe
Many countries in the Caribbean, the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and even the United Kingdom (not part of Schengen zone), do not need a Schengen Visa to travel to the European zone. We currently enjoy the privilege of visiting these countries visa-free. Soon, this will change after BREXIT, whether there is a Deal or No Deal BREXIT. What approaches very quickly is BREXIT and ETIAS 2021, continue reading and I will explain.
People let’s be real!! for a person who loves to travel, there is nothing more depressing than when your vacation is about to end or has just ended and you must return home. It’s such a bitter-sweet feeling, “you are down to the end of the lollipop and the inedible, stick is all that remains”. You must face the reality of going back to your home, workplace, maybe crazy family life and or a boring/hectic routine, you refer to as your LIFE!! I will therefore, share with you some ways, to combat your post-vacation blues/depression.
YOUR GUIDE TO A SOLO VACATION IN CUBA - From arrival to departure!
Cuba is one of the Spanish speaking Caribbean Islands, its capital is Havana. I have been to many of the other Caribbean islands, but this was my first time in Cuba. Reasons being, 1. With the price of the ticket, you can visit Miami twice (so it’s not cheap). 2. Previously, there were no direct flights (under 4 hours) between Trinidad and Tobago and Havana, Cuba. So, here is your guide to a solo vacation in Cuba.
The day you have saved (see how to save for your vacation) and planned for is finally here. It’s been a long wait, with your sacrifices now about to pay off. You might be a bit nervous, but more so excited. However, before you rush off to the airport. There are 10 things you must do before your flight, so that when you have left the house, you will be self-assured that all is well and nothing to worry about. Before the day arrives, let it be in your thoughts to follow these steps before heading to the airport.
