TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL OR GHOST IN THE VATICAN

TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL OR GHOST IN THE VATICAN

Everyone has a travel-related story or an incident (good or bad) they will never forget.  This is my personal story which has not left my thoughts since my last vacation.  Additionally, it is my most bizarre travel story of all my years of travel.  It was December 2019, and I was happy to be visiting the Vatican City – the smallest country in the world.  I was travelling alone, as per usual, and was quite excited.  Was I expecting something as eerie and supernatural as being touched by an Angel or ghost in the Vatican?!  (If that is what happened).  Hell no!

My visit to the Castle of the Holy Angel

I was eager to see some of the museums and the famous landmarks in the Vatican.  Top of my list was the Castel Sant’Angelo (Castle of the Holy Angel), St. Peter’s Basilica, and maybe even get a glimpse of the Pope.

I chose to visit the day after Christmas Day, referred to as Boxing Day, on my side of the world.  On that day, the Castle of the Holy Angel was offering free admission to all.  So, I gladly joined the queue for the tour.  I was excited to visit the top of the castle for the panoramic views of the Vatican’s surroundings.

At the top of the building, there weren’t too many people.  Everyone was busy taking photos and enjoying the scenic view.  I was also taking pictures of the picturesque scenery and without a care in the world.

What happened next left me very perplexed to this day.  I felt someone tapped me on my left shoulder.  I immediately turned around to see who touched me, because I was not accompanied by anyone.  The quickest thought to my mind was, maybe someone wanted me to take their photos, which was quite common.

However, what did I see when I turn around? NO ONE! I couldn’t believe it.  No one was close enough to touch me..

If someone touched me on my shoulder, then it meant that they were tall as well, or taller than I am.  Because I am almost 6 feet tall.  I was like, “what the hell just happened!?”

Eventually, I placed it to the back of my mind, somewhat, and continued taking my photos.  About 20 minutes later, I left the castle and headed to St. Peter’s Basilica Square.

The St. Peter’s Basilica Square is quite famous and the melting pot of visitors from around the world.  If you ever visit the Vatican, you are 100% guaranteed to pay a visit to this square.  (For comprehensive and reasonably priced Vatican tours book through (#Ad) Klook).

My Unfortunate Incident

On walking towards  St. Peter’s Square, I fainted.  Well, I didn’t know at the time but laying on the Cobblestone road with people standing over me was the giveaway.  That was the first time in my life I have ever fainted.  I knew I had breakfast and felt strong and healthy.  Additionally, l wasn’t feeling light-headed, nor was I dehydrated.  What happened left me baffled.

I recalled people standing over me speaking so many different languages, none of which I understood.  Someone subsequently reached out their hand to pull me up off the cobble-stone walkway.  Then finally, I heard someone saying in English, “don’t let her stand up, let her sit and recover.”

How I didn’t damage or cut my head on the cobble-stones when I fainted is quite a mystery.  It was strange indeed.  Added to this, If I were to see any of the people who helped me up, I would never remember them.

I then sat on the sidewalk until I felt stable enough to get up and go.  After 30 minutes or so, I got up and continued sightseeing for the evening.  I then headed back to Rome.  (To read my article and review of my time spent in Rome, and Florence click here).  Nonetheless, the entire series of events that day left me troubled.

After this incident, I mentioned it to only a couple of persons but not to my siblings.  The reason being, I didn’t want them to worry unnecessarily about me being possibly sick and alone in another country.

I then continued my vacation in beautiful Lithuania and  then to the another European country I fell in love with, beautiful Malta, with no health issues.

Researched similar Incidents

On returning home, at the end of my vacation, I decided to search google for similar occurrences in the Vatican but came up negative.  I saw a couple of articles about exorcisms performed at the Vatican on Easter and Christmas Day.

However, there were no reported touching and or fainting incidents by anyone.  Maybe there are some incidents, but no one documented or published them.  Who knows!

Fast forward to November 2020, during a discussion I was having with one of my sisters regarding life and COVID-19.  The topic was about the fragility and shortness of life, etc. I decided to tell her about my strange episode in Vatican City.

What I heard next gave me Goosebumps.  My sister revealed to me that she has a friend who travels alone, with an almost exact story.  She recalls her visiting the Vatican some years ago, and while at the Vatican Garden, she felt someone touched her, and of course, no one was near her at the time.

Minutes later, she fainted, and passers-by assisted her and took her to a church to recover.  That made me feel that my incident was not an isolated one at all.  Hence the reason I decided to share this story.  It was all very shocking to hear.

Did an Angel or a Ghost also touch this lady or was this coincidental?  No one know, but I think it’s a very unusual occurrence.  It is quite difficult to wrap my head around it all and figure it out.  I also believe I either fainted because I felt a touch or was not seriously hurt because of it.

Conclusion

I can only conclude that it’s all rather very eerie.  Also, I am still pondering and asking the question, is there something supernatural happening there?

Is there something  touching visitors in the Vatican?  I am almost sure that this may have happened to others if it has happened at least twice before.

Additionally, I can recall that day, while I sat on the pavement recovering, an ambulance was attending to someone about 10 feet away from me.

It’s a possibility that maybe someone else fainted, but their outcome was worse.  It would be interesting to find others who may have had a similar incident in the Vatican City.

Please share any stories or incidents you may have experienced or heard from someone else regarding this topic at the Vatican or another country.

  1. Hello Corey!! I learned a lot of things from your article. I really appreciate your work.
About your question, I hope that the miracle happens everyday so it’s our duty to find it..I think you found yours, keep up the intersting travel stories..

  2. Hi what a story once again and so instresting on your experience, reading your story I made me cast my mind back to vatican in Quebec when I was there in 2018 the view and picturque view and the things to see
Your fainting may have been by that touch placing a fear in your mind causing your blood vessels to dilate in the brain which would make you faint suddenly, keep walking with faith and with a strong heart and you will go further my solo traveler

    1. Thank you Eric, happy you enjoyed the article. Btw I didn’t faint suddenly, unless it was delayed reaction. It was about 20 minutes after I left the building and it was out my mind somewhat. I agree with you, there are always so much to see in these places.

  3. A very strange experience indeed! I would venture to say that since you were not harmed in any way by your subsequent faint and fall on such a hard surface, that maybe it was your guardian angel attempting to alert you and offering some form of protection. Travelling alone as you do all over the world, Cory, your guardian angel must be constantly on ‘overtime’ as it were! You are an amazingly brave person and I believe you have always been incredibly blessed by the Father! Stay close to Him, stay safe, and thank you for sharing such a personal experience.

    1. Hi Liz, I am happy to share my personal story esp during this heavy and stressful time. I always travel with God. Maybe it was my guardian angel maybe not. I know that this incident have never left my thoughts. Would love to hear from someone else who have had similar incident. Thanks for reaching out and stay safe as well.

  4. Hello dear Cora. I feel so sad and fear about your travel experience. You know I am also alone and travel to many countries of course before than corona. Nowadays I only stay at home and go around by bicycling. Faint or big problem like this is very important, if we were alone and also we were at travel at another countries. We could lost what we have near us or like this problems. I think be alone travel is not a good idea. Your experience is very important and thank you for sharing with us. Hope one day we meet again..it was nice meeting you.

    1. Hi my friend, no need to be sad, I am alone physically when I travel but I am never really alone..I go with God always. Likewisee, it was nice meeting you..you are a gentleman..stay safe.

  5. Hey Cory,

This is a truly incredible experience, places of worship are not to be underestimated about its power, maybe your experience is one in which its intended to bring you closer to God as he delights in you?

    1. Hi Shurls who Knows.. maybe that’s the case maybe not..I don’t know what to make of it or why another female solo traveller had a similar experience. Life goes on until the next experience..

  6. Hi Cora….I think in a way that you have to feel blessed for what you have been through. There are very few people who experience such things. I don’t think it’s a ghost but rather something spiritual….Maybe a special blessing

    1. mmm ..I don’t know how to look at it maybe when I fainted something took over my body lol.. strange enough and not to sound too weird but the dream I had a week later about 2020 and onward was 1000% spot on..its a good thing I shared it with others the same time I had it so no one can dispute I did.. say what, whatever it is, thank God for life!!

    1. Hey girl happy to hear from you…its been a while. Regarding the story imagine how I feel, I would have not shared this story had it not been for my sister’s info. I was a bit hesitant to share also but say what its a good travel-related read. Stay safe!

  9. Wow!! It was a really strange experience. I can’t imagine what you must have thought to yourself when you turned back to find out who touched you, only to discover no one was there. And fainting 20 minutes later is something really striking. I don’t think the same thing that happened to the other sister was a coincidence. One must be very careful these days 🙂

  10. Wow cory..that’s some creepy story ..sorry it happened where you fainted..but that is really strange..its good thing you are a tough cookies esp when travelling alone. That’s story scared me a bit..I dont know what to say..this other lady your sister told you about where does she live? You do really have some good travel stories though and wrote it so well…never boring stuff with you..you have so many memories to share..thanks for sharing this personal one with us..we appreciate.

    1. Hey Xamina, thanks for the kind words, whats life without a bit of creepiness?! lol. Yes I am tough and always go with God on all my vacation, if you have him you don’t need man to protect you. Regarding the lady, she lives in the USA…one of my sister friends..really strange I think ,aybe the ghost likes touching single females. ..thanks for reaching out

  11. Very Beautiful but strange story Cory..even I got scared. You go these locations alone but you are braver than me,Thank you much Cory for sharing this story ..its like a thriller.

    1. Nothing to fear when travelling alone, but still this one shook me up a bit…esp after hearing what my sister said..but life is strange..we just roll with it.. glad you liked the story.

  12. Your experience has been unique. What I wonder is , how did you feel during the time you fainted ?

Since Our brain goes off, do we have the subconscious taking over ? Is the subconscious functioning?

What do you think? I want your personal opinion? however quite a lovely mystery story Cory, sorry it happened but maybe good spirit follow you.

    1. Thank you Hamid…maybe I have a good spirit that follows me, 🙂 I had no clue what happened regarding the subconscious, all I knew I was walking one minute and next minute i was on the ground, I find feel the fall, neither felt anything else until I saw strangers above me.

    2. Hi. Cory, next time i go with you, I will protect you from spirits and men , ha! wo crazy story ..even I would have been scared after, glad other people helped you up we are one world and you beutful woman. I love the story, even though it frightening, you are strong woman.

  13. Strange story . Maybe it is an angel more than a ghost. I heard Catholics were christian before being bought by big banks. After that they became the catholic religious guys they are today.

    1. Some story!!! I have never heard such a thing about bought by big banks…we need to talk more about this offsite. BTW my story became strange when my sister told me of her friend in USA with similar experience.

      1. hello Cory, surely the experience you told touched you very deeply. Thanks for sharing it. I think it was an angel on the other hand you were in Castel Sant’Angelo and in the Vatican. Maybe you had a contact with your Guardian Angel who wanted to let you know that he is always with you and that particular place wanted to have a more tangible contact with you. A hug

        1. mmm coming from an Italian, I will believe it… somewhat..especially regarding a similar incident you related to me that occurred in you homeland. I am happy to share as usual my friend.. thanks ..hug right back at you!! stay safe..

  14. Good experience. Ghost is not the one who blessed you anyway. Definitely it’s an angel. If anyone else has such an experience, let them share it here! Thank you so much Cory, for sharing your new experience here. keep in touch

    1. Thanks Shabeer..still cant say what touched me but I was in the right place for it to be either. it’s good to share something bit more personal from my travel experiences. Glad you liked it..
